Imagine recently had a scoliosis screening, on December 10, for girls in 5th and 7th grade, and boys in 8th grade. State law requires that new students be screened for any signs of future or present scoliosis.

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a sideways curve of a person’s spine. This mean that a person’s spine curves sideways, and their posture isn’t completely straight. Due to the unnatural bend in their spine, they are unable to correct their posture.

How is it treated?

People with scoliosis have to wear a type brace on their back in order to slow the process of their spine’s progressive curve (as seen in the picture below).

Others undergo a surgery to correct the abnormal curve in their back as much as possible.
