October: a month where pumpkins, skeletons, and cobwebs adorn yards while children dress up in costumes, waiting to ask “Trick or treat?” October is usually known for being the spooky month, but it has many different celebrations and times to acknowledge different people.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During this time of the year, we celebrate those who have overcome breast cancer, support those who are going through it, mourn those who have passed, and attempt, as always, to find a cure. You may see pink ribbons around your community, reminding you of the struggle that many people are going through. You can take this opportunity to donate and to support those fighting.
Along with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is also Dyslexia Awareness Month, which helps to spread knowledge and understanding about dyslexia, which affects approximately 1 out of every 10 people in the world. Pasta also gets a chance to be acknowledged, as October is also National Pasta Month. During this time, we can stuff ourselves with spaghetti, tortellini, rotini, and many different types of pasta.
October isn’t just a month for pumpkins and costumes; it’s the perfect time to enjoy the cozy autumnal season, celebrate different people and holidays, and spread awareness about important topics. Happy October!
