Youth and Government Delegates Prepare for State!

YMCA Youth and Government is a national YMCA program, active in approximately 40 states. According to YMCA Texas Youth and Government, the purpose of Youth and Government is to prepare a selected group of young people for moral and political leadership in the American democratic process by providing guidance, training, and experience in the theory and practice of determining public policy on the state level. It is called a laboratory in citizenship and government.

With the YMCA Youth and Government State Conference approaching in a couple weeks, delegates prepare for their four hour departure from McKinney, Texas to Austin, Texas. High school delegates of Youth and Government will be leaving on January 30th and arriving on February 3rd. Here is what a few delegates say about their upcoming conference!

What are you most excited about for State?

Simi: “I am excited for rooming with my closest friends. I am also excited and scared for debating, but at the end it always feels worth it.”

What are you most nervous about for State?

Catherine: “I am so nervous for chair and clerking with my partner Angela John, we have tried to practice as much as possible but we are still not as good as the other chair and clerk teams. Pray for us!”

What are you most excited about for State?

Angela: “I’m most excited about spending time with my friends doing the thing I love the most: debating. I can’t wait to represent my school and show YAG what Dragons are really about!”

How many years have you been in Youth and Government? And are you excited for State?

Sofia: “I just joined the program this year and it is going to be my first year at State. Lots of my friends tell me it was the highlight of their year so I am expecting a lot. I’m so excited though.”

What are you most nervous or excited about for State?

Tiffany: “I am most nervous about meeting new people, debating and presenting for a whole day. I am so excited for my rooming situation and also chair and clerking. I am also excited for the food, the dance, walking around the State Capitol, just everything! It will be so much fun especially with all of my friends.”
